The Dogs We Help

At Four Paws, every client is special to us.

All of the dogs that we help become part of our family, just like they are part of yours. We care about them, and want to see them succeed, regardless of what their goals are.

Canine therapy is relatively new to the Midwest, so there are some understandable misconceptions about the types of dogs that we can help. So, if you’re thinking to yourself, “Oh, that’s a lovely service, but that’s not for my dog,” we encourage you to keep reading.

Injured Dogs
injuredHas your dog sprained one of its legs while chasing a squirrel? Have they suddenly started walking with a limp that you can't explain? Just like humans, dogs can have accidents, too. While we hope that never happens, it's possible, and we are here to help. Untreated injuries can lead to permanent and serious mobility issues as time goes on. With therapeutic exercises and manual therapy, we can help your dog through their recovery every step of the way.

Post-Surgery Dogs
post-surgery Surgeries are hard enough for us as humans, but it can be much harder for dogs, because they don't know how to care for themselves. That's where we come in. Without proper treatment and care, post-surgery dogs can have difficulty learning how to use their limbs again, causing them to favor the other legs. This can lead to an uneven gait and even atrophy in unused muscles. Special exercise on our therapy balls and some time in the underwater treadmill can really help.

Athletic Dogs
athleticDoes your dog compete in athletic events? Do you have a hunting dog? Does your dog accompany you on your daily jog? If you have an athletic dog, then strength and conditioning is important for their well-being. We give our athletic dogs a real workout! We run them on the treadmill, work their muscles on our balance balls, and let them swim in our underwater treadmill. We can create a customized workout for your dog based on their fitness goals, which can make them faster and stronger, but also help improve their balance and body awareness.

Overweight Dogs
wellcon1 Okay, this is a sensitive topic, and we don't want to hurt our furry friends' feelings, but let's be honest. Does your dog need to lose a few pounds or more? We all know that it's not good for humans to carry extra weight, and that's even more true for dogs. Even just a few extra pounds can make if difficult for dogs to move or even breathe comfortably. Based on your dog's body type, age, and weight loss goals, we can design a custom plan to help them get back into shape.

Geriatric Dogs
geriatric Is your older dog moving slower than they used to? Are they having a hard time getting around the house, or managing stairs? It's tough getting old, and it's no different for dogs. As their bodies age, joints start to swell, bones become brittle, and muscles can weaken. Older dogs are also more susceptible to injuries. We help our older dogs with therapeutic exercises and manual therapy that focuses on managing joint and muscle pain, as well as keeping them in the best shape possible.
